NATURE OF CHRIST

State the origin of Christ.

The son of God born of Mary.

Isaiah 7:14 - Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

Isaiah 11:1 & 2 - And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots: :2 And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord;

Luke 1:30-35 - And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. :31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. :32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: :33 And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. :34 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? :35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

Genesis 3:15 - And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

Galatians 4:4 - But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,

John 1:14 - And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

John 8:42 - Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.

John 7:28 - Then cried Jesus in the temple as he taught, saying, Ye both know me, and ye know whence I am: and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye know not.

Is He the Son of God?

Yes.

Matthew 3:16 & 17 - And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: :17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

Matthew 17:5 - While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.

Matthew 14:33 - Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.

Hebrews 1:5 - For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son?

Psalms 2:6-8, 12 - Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion. :7 I will declare the decree: the Lord hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. :8 Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession. :12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.

John 20:17 - Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.

2 Peter 1:17 - For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

John 3:16-18 - For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. :17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. :18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

Psalm 89:26 & 27 - He shall cry unto me, Thou art my father, my God, and the rock of my salvation. :27 Also I will make him my firstborn, higher than the kings of the earth.

Matthew 1:20-23 - But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.:21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. :22 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, :23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

 

3. Give a brief description of Christ.

He had the physical appearance of God but with the mortality of man.

Luke 24:36- 43 - And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you. :37 But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit. :38 And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts? :39 Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have. :40 And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet. :41 And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat? :42 And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb. :43 And he took it, and did eat before them.

2 Corinthians 4:4 - In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

John 14:9 - Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?

Hebrews 1:3 - Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

Hebrews 5:8 - Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;

2 Corinthians 5:21 - For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Matthew 2:11 - And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.

John 20:25, 27 - The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe. 27 Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.

4. Was He a man?

Yes.

1 Timothy 2:5 - For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

Isaiah 53:2 - For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.

Hebrews 2:6-9 - But one in a certain place testified, saying, What is man, that thou art mindful of him? or the son of man, that thou visitest him? :7 Thou madest him a little lower than the angels; thou crownedst him with glory and honour, and didst set him over the works of thy hands: :8 Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him. But now we see not yet all things put under him. :9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.

Galatians 4:4 - But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,

John 8:40 - But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham.

Luke 18:8 - I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?

Matthew 25:31 - When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:

Matthew 16:13 – 17 - When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? :14 And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets. :15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? :16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. :17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.

Luke 2:21 &22 - And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, his name was called JESUS, which was so named of the angel before he was conceived in the womb. 22 And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord;

 

5. Are there any differences between Jesus and God?

Yes.

John 14:9, 28 - Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest 28 Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.

Hebrews 4:15 - For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

James1:13 - Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:

John 5:19 - Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.

John 10:29 - My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.

Luke 22:42 - Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.

Luke 18:19 - And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good, save one, that is, God.

Romans 8:3 - For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:

Hosea 11:9 - I will not execute the fierceness of mine anger, I will not return to destroy Ephraim: for I am God, and not man; the Holy One in the midst of thee: and I will not enter into the city.

Zechariah 13:6 - And one shall say unto him, What are these wounds in thine hands? Then he shall answer, Those with which I was wounded in the house of my friends.

Acts 2:30-32 - Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne; :31 He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption. :32 This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.

 

Will He ever be on earth again?

Zechariah 14:4 - And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south.

Psalms 2:8 - Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.

Acts 1:11 - Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

Revelation 1:7 - Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.

Matthew 24:30 - And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

1 Thessalonians 4:15:17 - For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. :16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: :17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

1 Thessalonians 1:10 -And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.

John 14:3, 23 - And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. :23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

Revelation 20:4, 6 - And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years. :6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.

Revelation 5:10 - And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.

Psalms 72:1, 6, 8 - Give the king thy judgments, O God, and thy righteousness unto the king's son. :6 He shall come down like rain upon the mown grass: as showers that water the earth. :8 He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, and from the river unto the ends of the earth.

Ezekiel 21:25-27 - And thou, profane wicked prince of Israel, whose day is come, when iniquity shall have an end, :26 Thus saith the Lord God; Remove the diadem, and take off the crown: this shall not be the same: exalt him that is low, and abase him that is high.

:27 I will overturn, overturn, overturn, it: and it shall be no more, until he come whose right it is; and I will give it him.

Luke 19:12-15 - He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return. :13 And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come. :14 But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us. :15 And it came to pass, that when he was returned, having received the kingdom, then he commanded these servants to be called unto him, to whom he had given the money, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading.

 

7. Did He live before His birth, as a person or simply in the mind of God?

As a promise He was in the mind (logos =word) of God.

Ephesians 3:9-11 - And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ: :10 To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God, :11 According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord: :12 In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him.

Hebrews 1:2 - Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;

Colossians 1:16-19 - (is, preeminence) For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: :17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. :18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. :19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;

James 1:17 - Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

1 Corinthians 15:47&48 - The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven. :48 As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly.
